What do you do when you are in the worst of the worst of your life? Do you get down and discouraged? Do you live in depression?

You may deal with the horrible news of cancer, a wayward child, a marriage in danger, or financial hardship, but you can learn a great deal from David and how he handles his situation.

He is in great danger. David has every reason to be fearful, depressed, and discouraged. He could go over all the ideas in his head right now, karma, reaping what I sowed. I deserve this or even worse than I am getting, but he is enjoying something different.

Do you see it? David focuses on his Shepherd. He finds himself seated at a fancy banquet table, not in the battles. He is living life on a different level.

God loves you. His promises of being good to the undeserving blow our minds. How can the poor buy bread? How can those with nothing buy everything? Because God doesn’t think like we do. He is on a whole different wavelength. Isaiah 55:8–9.

We think in terms of getting what we deserve. We believe we earn what happens, good or bad. You reap what you sow. But David sees things differently.

God is good. It is time you opened your mouth and tasted His goodness. Open your eyes and see how wonderful He is. Psalm 34:8.

I know you might be hurting. Someone mistreated you. You are being attacked unfairly, but that is not where you are to be looking. Look at Jesus.

Tell your Shepherd about your worries. Thank Him now for working it out. As you trust the Lord, He will send you the kind of peace that David enjoys that passes all understanding. Philippians 4:6–7

You can live on a different plane, too. Just like Paul and Silas, as prisoners with their lives threatened, could sing loudly, trusting their Shepherd, we can too. Acts 16:25. That is living on a different plane, in a different reality.

Do you really want to suffer horribly because of your circumstances when you could enjoy the victory?

David’s problems haven’t diminished, but he sees past his hurt, harm, and danger to his Shepherd. He meditates on all that God is doing for him right now—not after death, not sometime in the future, but right now.

We can rise above all that is happening. We can live in a distinct reality that comes only from trusting our Shepherd. Will you trust Him today?

A Different Plane

When shadows fall, and storms arise,When tears flood the weary eyes,When news cuts deep, and hearts are torn,In the worst of days, when hope feels worn—

Do you sink beneath the weight of pain?Do you dwell in loss, let despair reign?Or can you lift your gaze above,To the Shepherd’s table of boundless love?

David stood in danger's snare,With every reason to despair.Yet he chose a path divine,To feast with God and drink His wine.

Not karma’s chains or guilt’s cruel sting,Not whispers of what fate might bring.David saw beyond his plight—His Shepherd’s care, his guiding light.

God’s ways are higher than our own,His mercy flows where seeds aren’t sown. The poor find bread, the empty gain,For grace transcends our earthly plane.

Taste and see His goodness now,Lift your heart and take a vow:To trust Him in the darkest night,To find His peace and hold it tight.

Paul and Silas sang in chains,Their voices soared above their pains. They lived a life that knew no bounds—A joy that rose where grief surrounds.

So rise today above your strife,Find victory in eternal life.Your Shepherd walks each step with you;His promises are ever true.

Though battles rage and trials stay,Meditate on His love today. For right now—not someday far—He holds you close beneath His star.

Trust your Shepherd; lift your eyes. His peace will calm your anguished cries.Live on this plane where grace abounds—Where hope is found and joy resounds.
