the tendency to turn from Him-God to ourselves when we prosper
Take this passage of Scripture and teach it to your children. I am writing these little lessons on work for a friend with a children's home. The goal would be to take a very few minutes every day to teach them the Biblical truth about work. They must work to succeed. They may have a cultural aversion to work. They must learn that we are from a different culture. We are heavenly-minded, not earthly-minded. We are different. We do not fit into the mold of this world.
Deuteronomy 8:17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. 18 But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
God wants us to know the truth in our hearts
It is not enough to pious say that God is blessing us and helping up
We must really believe that it is God working in our lives in the pit of our soul
From the inside out we should believe that it is all God
What might God’s people, Israel, say
They could begin to think of how strong they were to take the land
They could believe that it was their power as a people and their ability to accomplish things
The could believe that their talents accomplished great things
God wanted His people to remember Him. He was their Lord-King, He was their God-the one who had made them
God had given them power
God would take them into the promised land
God would keep His Word as He gave it to His people
These words are preemptive.
He is telling them this while they are still in the wilderness
He knows the tendency to turn from Him-God to ourselves when we prosper
People as a whole like to forget where they come from
They want to be respected
They are no longer slaves
They are no longer nomads wandering in the desert
They have defeated others and proven their power
God knows what will happen and tries to get them ready to deal with the future
Learn to work and you will be a success
Just never forget this moment where you are\
Never forget when God blesses that it was God that blessed you
Never think of yourself more highly than you ought to think
The Dignity of Work
