“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”
Jeremiah 9:24

God invites us to boast, brag, and glory in knowing Him, the One who delights in lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness.

Understanding what God loves, or delights in, will radically change how we see God and how we live.

Knowing God Is the Goal, Not Religious Performance

This is a call to relationship. The word “knoweth” conveys intimate, experiential knowing, not simply belief or doctrine. God is saying that if you are going to find your identity in anything, let it be this: that you know Me, the One whose love is steadfast, whose justice restores, and whose righteousness brings peace.

In a world preoccupied with religious effort or good works, this verse recenters us. What matters is not what you do for God but where you know His heart.

Lovingkindness: Love That Will Not Let Go

“Lovingkindness” describes God’s loyal, covenant love. This is not affection that depends on our behavior. It is the unshakable love of a God who says,

“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” Hebrews 13:5.

“The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth… keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…”  Exodus 34:6–7

That “mercy” is love that forgives, endures, and embraces. Yet in the same breath God says:

“…and that will by no means clear the guilty…”

God’s love is about justice. His lovingkindness is not weak but fiercely faithful.

Judgment: Justice That Heals Not Harms

The word “judgment” sounds like condemnation. However, Biblically, it means setting things right, especially for the weak.

“Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.” Isaiah 1:17

This is justice that defends. Judgment in the heart of God is about restoring dignity, equity, and peace.

In the absence of judgment, lovingkindness becomes permissive. But when lovingkindness and judgement work together, love takes form. It intervenes, protects, and restores.

Righteousness: Right Relationships and Right Order

Righteousness in Scripture is not just private morality. Righteousness speaks of right standing with God and right relationships in the community. It is life in harmony with God’s design and character.

“Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.” Psalm 89:14

God’s reign is built on justice and righteousness and expressed through mercy and truth.

Love and Justice as Partners

In God’s self-revelation, lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness are not in conflict. They define one another.

Lovingkindness is the motive. Judgment is the action. Righteousness is the outcome.

This is how God governs the world and how He invites His people to reflect His heart.

Jesus the Living Expression of Jeremiah 9:24

  • Jesus reveals lovingkindness by welcoming sinners, healing the broken, and forgiving enemies.

  • He reveals judgment by confronting injustice, defending the shamed, and exposing hypocrisy.

  • He reveals righteousness by bringing us into right standing with God.

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.”
    1 Corinthians 1:30

The cross was not a compromise between justice and mercy. Justice was satisfied. Mercy was poured out. Righteousness was given as a gift.

The Only Boast That Matters

“Let him that glorieth glory in this…”

Not in knowledge, strength, or accomplishment, yet in knowing Him.

This is the posture of grace. We do not boast in ourselves but in the One who loved us first. We do not strive to become like Him in our own effort. We receive His life so that His lovingkindness, His justice, and His righteousness flow through us.

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
Galatians 6:14

Living in What God Delights In

God delights in lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness because these reflect His character.

And through Christ, our Father invites us to live in that same delight.

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
Micah 6:8

They are the natural outflow of knowing the God who delights in mercy that remains, justice that restores, and righteousness that reconciles.

Let this be your glory that you know Him, and that knowing our Father shapes everything.
