Joseph didn't wake up one morning and think, "Today's the day I meet Pharaoh." He had no idea. He'd been wearing prison rags for years. He'd interpreted dreams for the butler and baker, and then... crickets. Two more years of dungeon life.

But when Pharaoh finally called, Joseph was ready.

Not because he had a prophecy update. Not because an angel told him to brush his teeth and get a haircut. He was ready because he'd been living ready every single day.

And that's the secret we miss.

You Don't Know When Your "Big Day" Is Coming

We spend so much energy trying to figure out God's timeline. When will the breakthrough happen? When will the door open? When will things finally turn around?

Joseph didn't know either. He was just doing the next right thing in front of him.

Whether he was managing Potiphar's household, resisting temptation, sitting in a dungeon, or helping fellow prisoners, he showed up. He was faithful. He trusted God to meet his needs that day.

Genesis 39:2-3 says it plain:

> "And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand."

Notice that. The Lord was with him. Not "the Lord showed up when Joseph got the big promotion." God was with him in the slaves quarters. God was with him when he was falsely accused. God was with him in prison.

God's presence wasn't conditional on Joseph's circumstances getting better. God's presence was the provision.

And Joseph knew it.

The "Day-by-Day" Walk of Trust

Here's the thing about trust: it's not a one-time decision. It's a daily practice.

Joseph had to trust God after being sold by his brothers. He had to trust God when he was slandered by Potiphar's wife. He had to trust God when the butler forgot about him.

Every. Single. Day.

He didn't have the full picture. He didn't know the ending. But he knew God was with him, and that was enough.

Matthew 6:34 puts it like this:

> "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

Jesus is saying the same thing Joseph lived: Show up today. Trust God today. Don't carry tomorrow's worries into today's walk.

God meets our needs exactly when we need them: not necessarily when we want them.

Joseph needed strength in Potiphar's house. God gave it.
Joseph needed integrity in the face of temptation. God gave it.
Joseph needed patience in prison. God gave it.
Joseph needed wisdom before Pharaoh. God gave it.

Right on time. Every time.

Don't Stress About the "Grand Plan"

We want the roadmap. We want to know how it all works out. We want the guarantee that if we do X, God will do Y.

But that's not how faith works.

Faith is saying, "I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow."

Joseph didn't see the grand plan. He saw prison walls. He saw injustice. He saw delay after delay after delay.

But he kept living like God was in control. Because God was in control.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:

> "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

You don't have to understand the plan to trust the Planner.

Joseph proves that when you walk with God, you're never caught off guard. Not because you have inside information, but because you're walking with the One who knows what's next.

Just Be Ready Today

So what does "ready" look like?

It's not complicated. It's not a 10-step program. It's not about having your life perfectly organized.

Being ready means:

1. You're faithful where you are right now.
Whether you're in a pit, a prison, or a palace, you do what's in front of you with excellence. Not for applause. Not for a promotion. Because you're serving God, not circumstances.

2. You trust God to provide what you need when you need it.
You don't hoard. You don't panic. You don't manipulate. You rest in the truth that God is with you, and His presence is your provision.

3. You keep your heart soft and your attitude right.
Bitterness will disqualify you faster than anything else. Joseph could have become angry, resentful, or hard. He didn't. He stayed tender toward God, and that made all the difference.

I've been in ministry for over 50 years, and I've learned this: God is never late, but He's rarely early by our clocks. He meets us in the waiting. He provides in the process. And when the door finally opens, you'll be ready: not because you saw it coming, but because you've been faithful all along.

God's Got the Provision Covered

Here's the grace-soaked truth that changes everything: You are not responsible for making things happen.

You're responsible for showing up. For being faithful. For trusting.

God handles the rest.

Joseph didn't orchestrate his freedom. He didn't lobby for a meeting with Pharaoh. He didn't market himself or pull strings.

He interpreted a dream because it was the next thing in front of him. And God used it to open a door Joseph couldn't have imagined.

That's how God works. He takes our everyday obedience and does something extraordinary with it.

You don't have to stress about the future. You don't have to figure it all out. You just have to show up today and trust that God is with you.

Because He is. And He always has been.

Psalm 37:23-24 says it beautifully:

> "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand."

Your steps are ordered. Even the ones that feel like setbacks. Even the ones that don't make sense. God is ordering them, and He's holding you up.

The "Everyday" Secret

So what's the secret to being ready for anything?

It's not about knowing the future. It's about knowing the One who holds the future.

It's not about being perfect. It's about being present.

It's not about having all the answers. It's about trusting the One who does.

Joseph lived this way. And God met him every single day: whether he was wearing a slave's tunic, prison rags, or royal robes.

You can live this way, too.

Just show up today. Do what's in front of you. Trust God to meet your needs. Keep your heart right.

And when your "big day" comes: and it will come: you'll be ready. Not because you saw it coming, but because you've been walking with the One who's been preparing you all along.

God's got this. And He's got you.

FAQ

What does it mean to live "ready" for God?
Living ready means being faithful in the present moment, trusting God to provide what you need when you need it, and keeping your heart soft toward Him. It's not about having everything figured out: it's about showing up today and trusting Him with tomorrow.

How can I trust God when I don't see the bigger picture?
Trust isn't about seeing the whole plan. It's about knowing the Planner. Joseph didn't know he'd end up as second-in-command in Egypt, but he knew God was with him. That was enough. Your job is to be faithful today. God's job is to handle the rest.

What if I feel like I've been waiting too long?
Joseph waited two extra years in prison after interpreting the butler's dream. It felt like forever. But God's timing was perfect. Don't confuse a delay with a denial. God is working even when you can't see it, and He will meet you exactly when you need Him most.
