Sin has Consequences

As you have meditated on this passage of Scripture, you may think it is too good to be true. It is. You are thinking, but I have heard all my life about God judging sin, being easily angered, hating sin so severely that He killed Jesus for taking up our sin. That is not the case. God was in Christ, as we have seen. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one indivisible God. So when the Son died, God was in the Son. God hates sin and took sin on Himself. God became human, lived among us, died for us as a human, was buried, and rose again as a human from among us while remaining 100% God.

Humans couldn’t win the battle against sin, but Jesus did. He did it for us. He took our place, lived a perfect life, and died as a sinner, carrying the sin, the rebellion, and the wickedness on Himself.

As you can see, God is saying He always is. He is the “I AM.” The “I AM” is merciful, gracious, patient, loaded with faithful, loyal, covenant-keeping goodness, never changing, always careful to keep His mercy as He forgives every type and all sin for everyone. His love is all-encompassing, providing us with comfort and security in our faith.

There are consequences. Sin has consequences, and as He finishes telling us who He is, He says, “I AM LOVE, but I do not ignore sin.” God doesn’t just wipe away iniquity, transgression, and sin. No, He takes it on Himself. He suffers and bears the sins of the world.

Jesus, God in human flesh, came and took up our griefs, sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses. He took everything wrong with us on Himself. We thought God was beating and mangling Jesus, but it was our sins, our guilt, and what was needed to obtain our peace and well-being. Jesus, God in human flesh, steps in and does all to heal and make us whole again.

Jesus did this for the entire world. Jesus is the Savior of all men, but you notice He is the Savior of those who believe. The gift is there for everyone. All you need to do is trust that Jesus died for you.

Sin is rebellion against God. It is taking the mindset that you can be your own god with no need for God. Sin has consequences.

As you remain in your rebellion with a desire to be your own ultimate authority, it affects all your family: your children and even your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jesus has taken your sins and their consequences on Himself. His peace and freedom are yours if you will simply believe Him. Trust God that He loves you and has taken your sins on Himself. Find freedom, peace, and joy in Christ provided by God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
