No More Standing
In the temple, the priests never sat. There were no chairs in the Holy Place because their work was never finished. Day after day, sacrifice after sacrifice, blood flowed but never cleansed. Sin was always remembered, never removed.
But when Christ offered Himself, He did something no priest had ever done. He sat down. Not because He was weary, but because the work was complete.
was not a cry of defeat, but a declaration that sin had been put away once and for all.
This is the gospel: the Son has sat down, and so may you.
The End of Striving
Religion always leaves you standing. Always pushing, always sweating, always afraid you have not done enough. But sanctification is not you struggling to finish what Christ began. It is Christ in you, living His finished life through you.
Imagine a man who insists on standing while the feast is spread before him. The host pleads, “Sit down, eat, rest.” But the man says, “No, I must keep proving I deserve this meal.” He never enjoys what was freely given.
That is how many believers live. They know Christ died for them, but they keep standing as if something more is needed. The cross says, “Sit down.” Sanctification is learning to rest in the One who already sits enthroned.
Seated With Him
Here is the greater wonder. Scripture says we are not only forgiven by His sacrifice, but we are also joined to Him in His victory.
The gospel does not leave you standing at a distance, hoping to be accepted. It seats you with Christ at the right hand of the Father. His seat is your seat. His standing before the Father is your standing.
When the accuser whispers, “You do not belong here,” point to the cross and the empty tomb. Your life is hid with Christ in God. Where He sits, you sit.
Resting in Union
You are not trying to copy Jesus from afar, as if He were a perfect example you cannot reach. You are joined to Him, bone of His bone, flesh of His flesh, one spirit with Him.
This is Bible sanctification: not striving to be holy but sharing His holiness. Not climbing up to God, but resting in the God who has taken His seat and taken you with Him.
Reflection
Are you still standing, still striving, still trying to prove yourself to God? Or do you see yourself seated with Christ, resting in His finished work?
Remember that Jesus Christ was offered one sacrifice for sins forever and then sat down. He is seated. We are seated with Him. We are not to live standing in fear, striving in my own strength, or trying to prove myself. My life is hid with Christ in God. His seat is my seat. His victory is my victory. I rest today in His finished work, for it is finished indeed.
