Notice that David says he walks through the valley. He walks. There is no mention of running in fear, just proceeding through the valley. He walks because he is not afraid. He is not afraid because he knows that his Shepherd is with him. David knows that his Shepherd has the tools and ability to protect him. He walks through a very dark and scary place but has a peace that passes understanding.
This peace is based on David's focusing not on himself or his abilities but on his Shepherd. David focuses not on the shadows that bring fear but on the Shepherd.
You see, it is the valley of the shadows, not the valley of death. He walks through it, and instead of looking at the shadows, he looks at the Shepherd.
Shadows make things more scary. They play tricks on us. The shadow is bigger than the actual threat. It moves in and out in weird ways as we walk.
What is lurking in the shadows? You must choose to not look at the shadows but at the Shepherd. When you look at the obstacle, you miss the opportunity to see the power and strength of the Shepherd.
David also seemed to know that he was going "through." He walked through the valley. As a believer, even death, the ultimate enemy, can never win. We walk through the shadow but never really die because our Savior overcame death and the grave.
What are you going "through?" As a believer, know that you can walk through with no fear because He, the great I AM, the Shepherd, is with you.
The Shepherd's Guidance
Through darkened valleys, we slowly tread,Shadows loom, filling hearts with dread. But fear not, for the Shepherd is near,His presence calms, dispelling fear.
With staff and rod, He stands prepared,To guard His flock, so well-cared.Every need, He does provide,Safety and comfort at our side.
We walk, not run, with steady pace,Confidence in His guiding grace.Though danger lurks in shadows deep,Our faith in Him, we strongly keep.
Yes, we may tremble, we may quake,But the Shepherd's strength, none can break. Our trust in Him outweighs our fright,As He leads us towards the light.
Through valleys dark and mountains high,With the Shepherd near, we'll get by.For in His care, we'll always be,Protected, guided, and set free.
