Paul’s words to Titus are short, but they cut deep:

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Titus 1:15–16

Those aren’t abstract religious lines. They’re the story of how every heart sees the world.

A clean heart changes everything.

“All things are pure unto the pure.” The Greek word for “pure” here is about spiritual purity, the kind you can’t manufacture on your own. It comes from God washing you clean through Christ.

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God 1 Corinthians 6:11

When your heart is at rest in His love and your conscience is clear, life looks different. You can see God’s fingerprints in the ordinary, in the kindness of a friend, the beauty of creation, even in the minor interruptions of a day. You’re not on high alert for what might contaminate you, because you know He has already made you His.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God Matthew 5:8

When the lens is dirty

“But unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure.” That word describes a settled state of contamination, not just a bad day, but a way of life rooted in unbelief.

Paul says even their mind and consciences are defiled. That’s like wearing glasses with grime ground into the lenses. You can look straight at something good and find fault in it. You can hear words of love and take them as an insult. And the problem isn’t “out there.” It’s in here.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

Talk without truth

“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him.” The Greek shows this is an ongoing pattern, not a slip. It’s living with two scripts, one for the lips, another for the feet. And sooner or later, the contradiction shows.

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me Matthew 15:8

Empty talk without matching obedience leaves you not just unproductive, but, as Paul puts it, “unto every good work reprobate” failing the test.

If ye love me, keep my commandments John 14:15

How the lens gets cleaned

You don’t fix a smudged lens by pretending it’s clear. And you don’t fix a defiled heart by trying to act pure. You come to the only One who can cleanse it.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

When you trust Him, He doesn’t just remove the dirt; He changes your vision. You begin to see grace where you once saw guilt. You spot opportunities instead of threats. And you recognize His hand in places you once thought were hopeless.

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin 1 John 1:7

An honest question

Maybe lately everything has looked tinted by people’s motives, your circumstances, even God Himself. Could it be the issue isn’t what you’re looking at, but what you’re looking through?

You can hand Him the whole mess, the dirt, the distrust, the double life, and watch Him replace it with a clean heart, a mind that’s renewed, and a conscience that’s tender again.

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:23–24

Here’s the truth in plain words: You don’t see life the way it is. You see it through the condition of your heart. Let Him cleanse the inside, and the view outside will change more than you ever thought possible.
